Your financial data stays yours
The short version
- The figures you enter — income, accounts, balances, plans — are stored on your own device, not on our servers.
- We don't sell your data, run ads, or track you across the internet.
- Data leaves your device only when you choose to send feedback, and only what's needed to answer you.
- The iPad app has no account and no sign-in. The web version uses email sign-in to protect your saved plans.
Who we are
TaxMetric is a Canadian retirement-planning tool published by Wiffen Partners ("we", "us"). It models taxes, investment and registered accounts, government benefits, and withdrawal strategies. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the iPad app or the web app.
What you enter, and where it lives
To build a projection, you enter financial details such as your age, income, account balances (RRSP/RRIF, TFSA, LIRA/LIF, FHSA, non-registered, real estate), and assumptions. This information is saved locally on the device you're using — in the app's on-device database on iPad, and in your browser's local storage on the web. It is used only to run your projection and to let you save and reload scenarios.
We do not receive, store, or have access to these figures on our servers in the course of normal use. Deleting the app (or clearing your browser storage) removes the data from your device.
Accounts and sign-in
- iPad app: there is no account and no login. Nothing identifies you.
- Web app (at wiffenpartners.ca/app): access is protected by an email-based sign-in provided by our authentication partner, Clerk. Your email address is used to secure and restore your saved plans, and is handled under Clerk's own privacy terms. We do not use it for marketing.
Feedback you choose to send
If you use the in-app feedback option, information is transmitted to us only at that moment, and only so we can respond and fix problems. A feedback submission may include:
- the message you type;
- an optional reply-to email address, if you enter one so we can get back to you;
- a link that encodes the scenario inputs you were working on, so we can reproduce what you saw;
- the app version and a short recent-error log to help diagnose the issue.
Because that reproduce link can contain your financial figures, please leave feedback only if you're comfortable sharing the scenario you're on. Feedback is used solely for support and product improvement, kept only as long as needed for that purpose, and never sold or used for advertising.
What we don't do
- No advertising, and no ad or cross-site tracking.
- No sale or rental of your personal information.
- No third-party analytics that profile you inside the iPad app.
Children
TaxMetric is a financial-planning tool intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Your choices and rights
Your on-device data is under your control: edit or delete scenarios in the app at any time, or remove all of it by deleting the app or clearing browser storage. For anything sent to us through feedback, or for a web account, you can contact us to ask what we hold, or to request correction or deletion. Depending on where you live, applicable privacy law (such as Canada's PIPEDA) may give you additional rights.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we'll update this page and revise the "last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
